Special Skills: Though many things come easy to Serenity she is rarely interested in common magic. She would rather turn on a light with her finger then do a spell for it, and would rather drive or walk than apperate. But her true passion lies in the healing value of magic. Whether its using herbs and potions to calm people, or spells to ease pain, she is drawn to it. She even got in trouble with the ministry for underage magic when she tried to use a healing spell on her mother as the woman died from cancer. She is also skilled in divination, though some people dont believe in her predictions and she rarely tells the skill to others.

Mirror of Erised:Truthfully Serenity would never look in the mirror. She doesn't like to see what could be, or might be, or even what she truly desires. But if she did gaze into the mirror she would most like to see her mother still alive and her family happy. Something she knows will never happen.

History
No one is really certain as to when Dominick Horton and Hope Kenton first fell in love. Some say it was even before they were born, when their mothers attended prenatal yoga together. Hope used to say it was before that even, when they were in heaven. Soul mates she liked to say. But anyone that knew the two or saw the two together knew that Dominick and Hope were meant to be together. And they were. The two were practically inseparable since they day they were born and it came as no surprise to the people of their small town when the two wed a month after high school graduation.
Hope settled down as a house wife, painting for the love of it though some of her paintings have been sold. Dominick started a business where he followed the other love of his life-carpentry. The Horton's had always had a way with their hands, whether the flick of the paint brush of Hope, the clack of the hammer with Dominick, or now the waving of the wand with Serenity. Even their sons had artistic talents.
It wasn't long after the honeymoon that Hope learned she was pregnant with the couple’s first child and on a cool fall day Markus Horton came into the world. He had his fathers eyes and his mothers hair and the couple fell in love with the baby immediately. Hope and Dominick were natural parents and family life became them.
Two years later the happy family of three turned into a family of four as they welcomed their second son Trenton into the family. Hope had her hands full at home and Dominick had his hands full with a his business. But somehow they found time to have their hands full of each other and 6 years later Serenity came into the world. The family thought that she would be their last child, and being the youngest and the only female Serenity was spoiled slightly, and she always had her brothers to look after her. From an early age her family knew there was something strange about Serenity; Whether it was the way she made things fly across the room when she was angry, or some of the other peculiar things that happened when she was upset or even happy. The biggest things they tried to say was just a play on the imagination, their daughter was normal. But even at a young age Serenity knew she was different from her family. She couldn't exactly vocalize this, but she knew it was true. But her family treated her normally and they all loved each other so everything was fine.
At age 10 Serenity and the rest of the Horton family received a shock when Hope once again announced she was pregnant. Less than 9 months later the last edition to the Horton family, Samuel, was born. And with that news came news that would forever shake the Horton family. Hope had cancer. The cancer had progressed as Hope was pregnant and the pregnancy not only hid the tumor but the increase in hormones in the woman’s body increased its rate of growth. The prognosis was not good. Shortly after this revelation Serenity got her letter from Hogwarts and the Horton family learned that their little girl was a witch. Shocked at first, as any muggle parent would be, they soon forgot this fact when they realized their daughter was just as special as they always knew she was and they sent her to Hogwarts to begin her education. This was hard on Serenity and she spent much of her first year homesick for her dying mother. She wanted to be there for her. That summer shortly after returning home Serenity's mother died, leaving the four Horton children motherless, their father wifeless and leaving Serenity as the only female in the bunch. She didn't want to return for her second year but her father insisted. Markus dropped out of school and went to help their father in his business, since Dominick had gone into a bit of a depression after his wife died. But he and the rest of the Horton family made it through.
Serenity's years at Hogwarts have been some of the best years of her life, or so she would say if you asked her. It gave her an escape from a home like she wasn't sure if she could handle after her mother died. And the spells and magic she's learned she hopes to put to good use some day. Serenity loves her friends and her family. She doesn't put much thought into the separation of houses at Hogwarts, to her its pretty much a useless ceremony, she thinks splitting people up just breeds unneeded competition and anxiety. Of course she sees how she's like the people in her house, but she does have friends from all houses at Hogwarts.
Serenity goes home for all the major breaks at Hogwarts because well, family is the most important thing to her. She knows hope would have wanted her to be there for her family like they are there for her.
During her time at Hogwarts Serenity hasn't done much to be memorable, she isn't the best at a subject, she isn't a quiddich star. Though she did gain some notoriety for breaking underage magic laws the summer her mother died, trying a spell she had picked up to try to ease her mother’s pain. The Ministry forgave the offence, given the circumstances, but Serenity likes to bring it up if she feels like pretending to be a BAMF. She is also proud to announce that the spell did work, according to her mother at least.

Family Dynamics:Serenity is the only witch in a family of muggles but the Horton family did not let this upset them. They have always been close knit and rely on each other heavily. For years the family lived happily, until soon after the birth of the youngest Horton-Samuel, five years ago, they learned that Hope had cancer, a cancer that had been concealed during her pregnancy and was already in advanced stages. The family grew closer as they watched the mother they loved waste away. The thing that Serenity regrets most in the world is not being there in the final months of her mothers life, but the woman had insisted that Serenity go to Hogwarts. Hope Horton died shortly after Serenity returned home for the summer holidays. The loss severely shook the family. Dominick became depressed for a while, as any man who had loved a woman for as long as he had loved his wife would. Markus moved back home to help support the family and though Serenity was still at school and away from the chaos she still felt it. And she felt guilty for leaving them, but again her father had insisted. Through the years though Dominick has returned to almost normal, he had a family and a baby boy to raise after all. He supports the family at his own business, one where Markus still works. The only thing he has not yet done is starting to date. He sincerely feels he will never love a woman as much as he loved Hope. Though his children have tried to get him out on the market Dominick has refused. He doesn’t want do stop loving his wife and keeps her presence always in their house, something Serenity is thankful for, because she loved her mother dearly.
Personality
Serenity is sweet, caring, and above all a genuinely good person. Her family is the most important thing to her and though she tries not to show it her mother’s death has shaken her even after all these years. Serenity can be a bit of a tomboy at times, perhaps because of her mother’s death in the most important years of her life, or the fact that she has her 3 brothers and father to toughen her up. She enjoys playing sports even when she isn't good at them at all, though she does have some skill for American Football- her fathers favorite sport. It could be her petite frame allows her to shimmy through her brothers and towards the goal line.
Serenity doesn't believe in using magic to do common things. She believes it is a waste of talent, and knows magic can't solve everyone’s problems like some people seem to think it could. Perhaps it was the fact that both magic and medicine failed her mother that gives her that viewpoint. But after seeing her mother’s reaction to her spell she knows that it does have some medicinal value and she wishes to use the skills she learns at Hogwarts and future training in medicine to become a doctor and help people to the best of her ability.
Serenity loves hanging out with her friends and having fun, especially playing out in the snow, swimming, or singing karaoke. But she knows when to sit down and crack the books. She's often found in the library studying or in the infirmary learning about medicine from the staff there.
